Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach approximately 50 6th grade math students. We are an under performing/failing school in an urban impoverished environment.

My students can truly embrace math through hands on crafts and visuals. We do not have any art/music classes in our school. I like to still give them a chance to create artwork through the math lessons.

One of our math investigations has to do with adding fractions through spices (IE. making Garam Masala or Fruit cake spices). The spices and bottles will allow the students to measure fractional portions of spices and add them together. The students will be able to place their mixed spices in the bottles and take them home to potentially cook with their parent or guardian.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to embrace adding fractions while giving them an opportunity to bond with their parent or guardian by sharing the spice fraction experience and cooking together.
