I teach 2nd grade in Florida. We have high percentage of students who receive free/reduced price lunch, many ESOL (2nd language) students, and we are full inclusion, which means all of our Special Education students are fully included in regular classrooms.

I teach all of the second grade students who have been retained (held back) in 2nd grade or retained in first grade and then administratively placed in 2nd grade due to poor performance in their 2nd year of 1st grade. These students have never known success in school or what it really means to be a "learner." I teach using an alternative curriculum and work on character building, work habits, and help them develop a love of learning.

This year I have been working on fostering my students' independence by using independent learning centers that they can do on their own. This project includes Vocabulary and Comprehension activities which are on cassette tapes that students can listen to and complete on their own. The individual student cassette players would allow them to do these activities independently. I can also use the cassette players for individual listening centers for books on tape that I already own. We also need wipe and write markers for them to complete the activities and a storage rack to store the items.

Your donation will be so beneficial for not only improving my students' comprehension and vocabulary skills, but also for creating independent and self sufficient learners.
