Whaddya wanna be?

My project needs a number of different products to accommodate the various centers in our classrooms. We would like to focus on all about me for the first 5 weeks of school and these resources will allow us to do so.

I wanted to be a ballerina, a nurse or a teacher when I grew up. I ended up being a teacher! The toe shoes were too wobbly. The sight of more than a drop of blood made me queasy. So teacher it was, is and always will be. I had the options to be whatever I wanted to be and my community and my school supported that. I would like to be able to encourage our preschool children to be whatever they want to be as well. This can be done more effectively if the children are exposed to more resources that model their environment. They are able to interact with different objects; discuss different occupations and feel a real sense of community within the classroom. Gender roles can be dismissed and children can learn that every occupation is important. They can incorporate math skills, social skills, oral communication skills and problem-solving skills, just to name a few. With these resources, our children will be able to create a myriad of realistic situations and have a better understanding of themselves and the world around them. They will be able to realize the connection between their community and other communities that make-up their cities and towns. The goal is for them to expand their roles as productive citizens and realize the choices they make will impact others.
