Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

"Choral Singing is a Gift for Life" Last year in January I asked the student body if they wanted to start a choir and the resounding response was YES! We are a Public School on the border in Arizona, 85% Hispanic, with a large percentage of our students part of the free lunch program. Our students are amazing; polite, respectful, and a deserving. Our school is a performing Plus school and we are proud that, and we are one of the top performing border schools in the state of Arizona.

We have an opportunity to affect our students, many of whom cannot afford an instrument for band but would still like to participate in making music. Several of these kids are "troubled" and have reached out to the choir to turn themselves around. It is one of the few positive aspects of their day. Our problem is that in the 12 year history of the school we have never had a choir and while other aspects of our fine arts department got their basic needs met before this economic downturn choir did not. We are in the process of trying to get a parent support group but at the moment everyone is over-extended. As we all know there is little money in any schools budget for fine arts and the choir is struggling.

We are in need of a sturdy piano to enrich this segment of students who cannot play an instrument but who still want to make beautiful music.

We are slowly building our program and will have our first concert in December for the Holidays. Resources are tight and we do not have a piano for rehearsal and performance. Currently we use an old piano that has broken keys and cracked frame to have something to make music with. Can you help? Your donation will enable a very deserving group of kids make beautiful music and perhaps turn around a few kids who are considering the wrong fork in their lives road.
