My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? In order to have this moment, students need to know how to decode and read words. Please help our students become lovers of reading and literacy.

My students are great kids who need extra support in learning to read.

I try very hard to instill the love of reading in my students everyday. Our school is a Title 1 school where more than 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunches. A large percentage of students did not attend preschool nor were they exposed to any type of academics before starting Kindergarten. Our school population is high military family, high single-parent homes, high minority and high low-income families. Although our students start school 1-2 years behind many other students, they are eager to learn and find pleasure in discovering the world around them on a daily basis.

My Project

I am asking you to help me create a listening center for my students. It is so important for students to have reading modeled to them- it helps them learn how to read fluently. Listening and responding to books on tape enhance their literacy skills. I am also requesting phonics activity programs that will help my students with their ability to decode and identify spelling patterns. Students will become better with letter/sound recognition, vowel patterns, consonant blends, etc.

Every child deserves a chance not only to be a great readers, but to be read to.

Listening centers can help with modeling fluency and with these listening programs you can help my students with their phonics skills. You will really make a difference in these students lives! They have so much potential, but due to lack of resources, they don't always have the chance to shine like the stars they are!
