My students need 45 copies of Write Source Skillsbook: A Book for Writing, Thinking, and Learning and a supply of pens.

Low in revenue, but the sky's the limit for spirit. I teach at a charter, non-profit military school. With just two teachers, I teach biology, pre-Algebra, and Language Arts. Most of the students come from low-income families.

The cupboards are bare. I brought in a few dozen pens and a few dozen pencils, knowing that students can't afford the basics. They are all gone. Textbooks? We've inherited textbooks that other schools have discarded. Most are outdated or been written in.

Write Source is a lively textbook that adds a lot of color to writing and employs humor. To give my students a real goal, students will submit non-fiction essays to Teen Ink. Write Source will help my students focus their writing through the use of the six traits of writing as well as the writing process.

Many of the students who attend this school have low-esteem issues, thinking that no one cares about them. Knowing that someone, a complete stranger at that, went out of their way to help them, would make a world of difference.
