Scholastic has an amazing magazine that takes students on awesome adventures as they explore space, insects, human biology, and many more concepts. With the Super Science magazines, my students will be able to read fascinating current Science news stories and participate in hands-on experiments. Through cross-curricular activities, my students will not only be learning about Science concepts, but also improving their reading comprehension, math, critical thinking, writing, and vocabulary skills.
I teach fourth grade at a Gifted and Talented Magnet school in rural Wake County, NC. I teach Math and Science to 45 fourth graders. Each semester I also teach a science magnet to students ranging from grades 3-5 who will also have access to the Super Science magazines. My students this year had the opportunity to read and explore Science concepts through the Super Science magazines through a funded proposal. I would love to have this awesome resource for my students for the 2006-2007 school year. Using the Super Science magazines will allow my students to learn about a Science concept and practice their problem solving skills in math, their writing skills, and reading comprehension skills.
The Super Science magazines will be used with all my 45 fourth graders as well as my students in my magnet classes. Once my students have experienced reading and exploring concepts in each issue, we share our magazines with the other fourth grade teacher who then uses them with her students to re-inforce concepts as well. Each monthly issue will be used to engage my students with current Science news as well as give them opportunities to do more hands-on experiments to reinforce concepts learned throughout the year. All together there will be 140 students who will participate in class activities with the Super Science magazine each month.
This fantastic magazine will allow my students to get more current with Science while they practice their abilities in all subject areas....as I have seen first hand how this magazine is an awesome resource for students to become actively involved in what concepts they are learning. My students wanted to do research after reading articles to find out more information as their interests were sparked through the articles in the Super Science magazine.
