As a media specialist in an elementary school in SC, my job is to energize and motivate students to read. Reading is the essential foundation for success in our society. Studies have shown that children who are not proficient readers by the end of 3rd grade have difficulty throughout the course of their schooling. So I have to catch them early and ‘hook' them on books so they will be successful. The more they practice, the better readers they will become. How can I get them to pick up a book and start practicing? It's simple...By offering books of high quality and high interest. One of the most popular areas in our library is the dinosaur section. You should see the books literally \\\'FLY\\\' off the shelves. My goal is to add a set of new dinosaur books that is age appropriate for younger children who are so fascinated with these creatures. (I am targeting the students in grades k-3, approximately 325 children.) I think these books will be the \\\'DINO-MITE\\\' to thrust these kids into the world of reading...
