Team Overview
The Operations Team delivers on the DonorsChoose.org mission. We work directly with teachers, donors, and suppliers to enable an effective, streamlined user experience. To ensure the end-to-end integrity of every project request, the Operations Team manages communications and systems that guide projects from submission through fulfillment. We also coordinate the donor thank-you process, the rewarding final touch to the work performed by DonorsChoose.org. With a focus on productivity gains, continuous improvement, and scalable technology to better serve teachers and donors, the Operations Team collaborates daily with other teams to keep our program running smoothly. And we have a lot of fun.
Position Overview:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing the “Teachers for Feedback” Volunteer Program. This part-time position (30 hours/week) focuses on our classroom feedback process, which handles the mailing of over 60,000 Thank-You Packages to donors annually.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the Volunteer Program – tasks include: training, maintaining relationships with our current volunteers, making short presentations to corporate volunteers, handling scheduling and follow-up with volunteers, and other administrative duties
- Plan and organize volunteer recognition events
- Compose short articles for teacher newsletters
- Answering teacher inquiries via e-mail and providing excellent customer service
- Conducting data analysis on program efficacy
- Developing ideas to streamline and improve our current feedback operations
Qualifications: We seek an individual with outstanding communication skills and a strong work ethic. The right candidate is motivated by our mission and by our entrepreneurial goals-driven culture. We seek a team player who has:
- at least two years volunteer management experience (strongly preferred)
- the skills to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- strong written communications and comfort with public speaking
- a problem-solving philosophy, a customer-service orientation, and strong analytical skills
- Computer literacy
o Excellent Microsoft Outlook skills
o Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer
- the ability to work evenings until 8 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays
o Monday: 12-8pm
o Tuesday: 2-8pm
o Wednesday: 2-8pm
o Thursday: 2-8pm
o Friday: 2-6pm
- excellent organizational skills, is a fast learner, and doesn’t mind doing nitty gritty work when necessary to ensure goals are met
- a people-person who enjoys interacting with new faces and cultivating a sense of community among volunteers
- experience working with teachers and knowledge of NYC public schools helpful
Compensation:
This is a part-time position. The job will be 30 hours/week during our peak season (September-June) and 10 hours/week during the summer (July-August). Compensation is $14 per hour. The position is for an immediate start and is based in DonorsChoose.org’s national office in midtown Manhattan.
