Team Overview
The Partnerships and Business Development division of DonorsChoose.org provides the funding support needed to deliver on the DonorsChoose.org mission. We work directly with corporate and foundation partners to channel millions of dollars in classroom funding to teachers in need each year.
Our division is comprised of three distinct teams: our East and West Teams, focused on generating support from funders on the East and West Coasts of the United States, and our National Team – focused on streamlining our fundraising operations, generating new opportunities, and increasing our visibility in the Cause Marketing space.
Position Overview
We see the Teacher Outreach and Program Expansion Fellow as a vital spoke in the wheel of our National Team operations, providing needed capacity in our efforts to reach more teachers and pursue new funding opportunities to benefit their classrooms. This fellowship opportunity is an experiment in a new kind of temporary position: providing a high-performing new college graduate with 6 months of valuable, marketable experience in the nonprofit sector, in return for their innovation, hard work, and diligence in supporting our work in the busiest months of our fiscal year.
Our 2011 Teacher Outreach and Program Expansion Fellow will report to the Director of Program Expansion Partnerships, based in DonorsChoose.org’s Washington, DC office. Responsibilities include:
Executing on our Fall teacher outreach campaigns, including:
· Email and phone outreach to cold-leads at potential partner organizations
· Email and phone outreach to existing partners with new funding information
· Setting up robocall and hand-call campaigns using pre-approved call scripts
· Reporting on teacher activity on our website and tracking progress to goals
· Selecting projects for inclusion in various funding opportunities according to pre-set criteria
· Learning ExactTarget email software in order to send out mass communications to teachers around relevant funding opportunities
· Developing and testing new strategies to reach teachers within set guidelines
Providing project support for 2011 Program Expansion funding opportunities, including:
· Teacher outreach reporting and support
· Selecting projects for inclusion in Program Expansion opportunities
Position Qualifications
We seek an individual with outstanding communication skills, a can-do attitude, and a strong work ethic. The right candidate is a self-starter who’s motivated by our mission and by our entrepreneurial goals-driven culture. Additionally, they will:
· Hold a bachelor’s degree (2010 or 2011 graduates strongly preferred)
· Have at least 3 months of internship or professional work experience with references
· Be interested in a 6-month intensive 25-35 hour per week position and be able to commit to the fellowship through mid-January 2012
· Have strong interpersonal skills, a pleasant and inviting phone demeanor, and the ability to work collaboratively
· Be solutions, improvement, and customer-service oriented, and have strong computer skills (including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Compensation
This is a part-time position for roughly 25-35 hours per week through
mid-January 2012. Compensation is $14 per hour. The position is for an
immediate start and is based in DonorsChoose.org’s Washington,
DC office in the U Street corridor. Applications will be accepted until the
