Science & Technology Transformation Needed!

My Students

A typical day begins with me asking my students, "How is everyone feeling?" "Are we ready to get our day started?" School is a safe haven that provides a lot more than education. It is their home away from home, where they learn, work, laugh, cry, write, calculate, interpret and grow up.

My students are an amazing group of economically disadvantaged 2nd grade students.

With this population, these students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently awaiting for them outside of the school gates. Building knowledge of healthy social, emotional behaviors and resiliency strengthens student assets and increase coping skills. Unfortunately, the majority of my students come from homes of chaos and disorganization with very little if any rules and or routines. The children want to be better, but they sometimes start out behind, and their possibilities of catching up seem dismal to most, but NOT to ME! Technology and Science has the power to teach, motivate, captivate and transform a classroom into a training ground for the next generation of artists, entrepreneurs and leaders.

My Project

My students need technology and science materials that include: a laptop, iPads, batteries, computer mice, a microwave, a mini-refrigerator, and technology protective cases. It isn't feasible to have students stand in line to share learning tools such as a pencil, paper, notebook, book, etc., it also does not make sense for them not to have access to learning resources they desperately need for learning each day. Having a functional technology science materials for science a lab would ensure no disruption in instruction that the students are accustomed to, and would actually improve it! There are so many benefits for my students that there are too many to mention here, but here are just a few. Technology brings the outside world into the classroom! Picture students in a science class studying local rainfall and flooding patterns while collecting information from the Internet provided by weather stations. In Social Studies class, students are discussing Native American history with an expert on the East Coast via satellite feeds. During Grammar/Writing, students are participating in a phonics lesson led by an instructor in a school hundreds of miles away.

You have the chance to make to make a HUGE difference in the lives of children.

These children are thirsty for exposure and experiences. Please help quench their thirst. Please take this opportunity to add to the education of children who are often otherwise forgotten and overlooked. Students admit they are bored and don't see a connection between what they learn in school and their everyday lives. My goal is to change their misconception, but I cannot do it without YOUR help! Change a LIFE!!!
