Brave philanthropists in Boston recently dove into the world of manly mustaches to help kids. These men sacrificed their honor and their faces to walk a lonely, month-long journey of growing mustaches. Leading up to the Super Bowl, they honored famous Boston mustache Wes Welker:

Their enthusiasm for all things Boston and mustache landed them on the local news. Check out the coverage they received on WHDH Boston!

The guys of Boston M4K raised nearly $18,000 for classroom projects, and one man in particular went above and beyond. Jordan Melcon told his friends, family, and colleagues that if he reached his $7,000 goal, he would shave his head.

As you see, he met his goal, and single-handedly raised over $8,000 for students in need!

Jordan, from all of us at DonorsChoose.org, and on behalf of the thousands of students you’ve help: Thank you! And we hope you have lots of hats.

The men of Curtis Bay Elementary School in Baltimore, MD are in the process of undergoing a drastic life change.

They have committed to grow Mustaches, to the best of their ability, in order to raise awareness and fund DonorsChoose.org projects posted by teachers at their school!

Soon, these faces will be adorned with sweet sweet ’staches…

Thanks Curtis Bay Bristles for making the ultimate sacrifice.

Kiva is an amazing non-profit organization (and one of our BFFs) with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. You’d think helping out hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs around the world would be enough. But these guys just can’t (or won’t) stop helping people in need.

For the fourth year in a row, the guys over at Kiva will be sacrificing their upper lips to help students get the classroom materials they need through Mustaches for Kids. They’ll once again ask friends and family to sponsor their ’staches by supporting classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org. Check out their Giving Page throughout Growing Season to see the impact they have on public school students.

Thank you, men of Kiva, for your incredible bravery (and ’stachery) in the face of the world’s greatest needs.

This fall, the students of Commodore John Rodgers in Baltimore, Maryland will be getting a special surprise: their classrooms will receive much-needed resources. But those resources will be coming through a very…nontraditional channel.

Every single male employee of CJR will be sprouting sweet, sweet ’staches to help their school.

They may be clean cut now, but give them two weeks,  and those upper lips will be adorned with the most charitable ’staches in Baltimore. To support the Mustache Men of Commodore John Rodgers, visit their Giving Page.

In the next few weeks, the guys of DonorsChoose.org will embark on a four week journey. There will be highs. There will be lows. There will be times when they want to give up. But ultimately, they will push on. Because it will be for the kids.

What is this journey, you ask?

It’s Mustaches for Kids!

Mid-November through Mid-December, more than 500 guys around the country will grow sweet ’staches to help students in need through DonorsChoose.org. Mustaches for Kids Chapters will compete at www.donorschoose.org/m4k to help the most kids and look the best doing it. Last year, Mustaches for Kids helped more than 200,000 students get the resources and materials they needed to learn. Let’s see if they can top that this year!

The fall means a lot of things to a lot of people: sweater weather, colorful leaves, the start of school.

But for the staff of DonorsChoose.org, fall only means one thing: Mustaches.  That’s right…Mustaches!  This year, as in past years, brave men around the country will sprout sweet ‘Staches in the name of helping students.

Mustaches for Kids – a yearly competition amongst mustachioed men to support children’s charities – is a test of strength, endurance, and tolerance (of humiliation that is).  For four weeks, men will grow out their ‘Staches and ask their friends and family to “sponsor” them by donating to classrooms in need.  They’ll get together weekly to see how their ‘Staches stack up.  Then, the month-long competition culminates in everyone’s favorite event: the ‘Stache Bash!

We know you’re wondering how you can get involved…

Guys – Grow a ‘Stache to raise some cash.  Visit our Mustaches: How To Guide to learn more.

Gals – Help out at a local ‘Stache bash. Check out the cities involved, then e-mail us at m4k (at) donorschoose (dot) org to find out how to get involved.

Everybody – Visit the Mustaches for Kids Motherboard and sponsor a ‘Stache!
