Charitable jewelry design company Pennyroyal Studio has just released a brand new “Alphabet Collection” to benefit literacy programs through DonorsChoose.org! For every Alphabet Collection pendant sold, Pennyroyal will donate a portion of the proceeds to a classroom in need. The handcrafted Alphabet Collection pendants are available in sterling silver and bronze on various chain lengths—we think that the only thing more beautiful than sporting (or gifting!) an Alphabet pendant is supporting a public school.
Check out the designs at www.pennyroyalstudio.com and help make a difference…one letter at a time. The students you help will t-h-a-n-k y-o-u!

Our pals at reddit are in the middle of an amazing campaign we love: a book exchange! Participants sign up online and are matched with a fellow bookworm. Each participant can list tips in their profile about what sorts of books they like and don’t like, and voila! Soon a new book arrives in the mail from their “Secret Santa”.
This year, redditors are giving back to public schools, too. In addition to sleuthing online to find the perfect book for their match, redditgifts has set up a DonorsChoose.org leaderboard. It’s full of book projects for schools in need. Cast your vote for your favorite genre by donating to book projects focusing on science fiction, history, graphic novels, and more. The awesome reddit community has already donated over $28,000 to book projects!
You can sign up through March 4th, and who knows? Maybe you’ll be matched with Tim Ferris of The Four Hour Work Week!
From all of us at DonorsChoose.org, thank you redditors!

Brave philanthropists in Boston recently dove into the world of manly mustaches to help kids. These men sacrificed their honor and their faces to walk a lonely, month-long journey of growing mustaches. Leading up to the Super Bowl, they honored famous Boston mustache Wes Welker:
Left to right: Josh Lynch, Brian Hult, Jon Cody Haines
Their enthusiasm for all things Boston and mustache landed them on the local news. Check out the coverage they received on WHDH Boston!
The guys of Boston M4K raised nearly $18,000 for classroom projects, and one man in particular went above and beyond. Jordan Melcon told his friends, family, and colleagues that if he reached his $7,000 goal, he would shave his head.
As you see, he met his goal, and single-handedly raised over $8,000 for students in need!
Jordan, from all of us at DonorsChoose.org, and on behalf of the thousands of students you’ve help: Thank you! And we hope you have lots of hats.

This spring, Bank of the West will be working with DonorsChoose.org to donate at least $500,000 to classrooms in their branch footprint.
This campaign will fund projects from hundreds of teachers and expose dozens more to additional sources of funding via other DonorsChoose.org donors. If your classroom needs resources (notebooks, pencils, calculators, you name it!) let us know by submitting your request on DonorsChoose.org by February 24th.
Teachers: Get Started Now!
Log into your DonorsChoose.org account. (If you’re new to DonorsChoose.org, you can learn more and sign up at www.donorschoose.org/teachers.)
Submit requests (for up to $800 in materials) to help support your students. Request must be submitted by February 24th to be considered for funding.
If your project qualifies for Bank of the West funding, you’ll be notified around mid-March with additional details. If not, never fear – it’s still eligible to be funded by the thousands of citizens, companies, and foundations that support teachers on DonorsChoose.org each year!

As many DonorsChoose.org fans in Southern California know there has been a lot of buzz recently because of the Wasserman Foundation campaign. Our partnership was launched to help fulfill classroom needs, foster innovation in education, and create a new corps of micro-philanthropists in Los Angeles. Our goals were lofty, and we set aside two years to accomplish them. Due to unprecedented support and participation from the Los Angeles Community, we accomplished these goals in just 12 weeks.
Take a look at the amazing impact this has had in Los Angeles Unified School District:
More than 9,400 teachers have posted projects
9,500 classroom projects have been fully funded in (this is 19% of all California projects ever funded through DonorsChoose.org!)
773 Schools had projects fully funded (nearly 75% of all schools in Los Angeles)
146,614 Angelenos used their gift cards to support a local classroom
356,309 students’ education have been enriched by the materials and experiences this partnership has enabled
“I am heartened by the amazing outpouring of support that our community has shown for our teachers and children,” said Superintendent of LAUSD, John Deasy. “Although the initial $4 million Wasserman investment in this campaign has been spent, I encourage all teachers to continue to post to DonorsChooseLA.org and I call on all Angelenos to continue to support our teachers through donations of any amount. This is only the beginning of the endless possibilities of ways we can help our teachers and improve education in LA.”
Our own founder, Charles Best agrees, “This partnership is historic, representing the strongest participation we have seen in the eleven years we’ve been around. We are deeply appreciative that the leadership of the Wasserman Foundation agreed to shift all of their resources into one school year to make sure the maximum number of teachers were funded immediately.”
We hope our partnership will continue and grow the connection between Angelenos and the needs of their schools, and support will continue for the more than 5,000 Los Angeles projects that are will in need of funding.
