Hopefully by now you’ve heard about our great partnership with SONIC Drive-In last year, Limeades for Learning. Well, now some major industry awards have confirmed that the program was truly groundbreaking! Earlier this month, Limeades for Learning was awarded a Silver Halo at the 2010 Cause Marketing Forum for Best Broadcast Video. It. is. adorable. The campaign also received a Silver Anvil award presented by the Public Relations Society of America for the best marketing of consumer products for a restaurant.
Huge congratulations to SONIC, and we’re fired up for another fantastic year of Limeades for Learning! Those things are delicious.
Adam Lambert is back on tour, and back helping classrooms across America. What else would we expect from this American Idol who’s already helped raise over $300,000 for public schools?! That is not the work of a “runner-up,” y’all. Seriously.
Adam announced that he’ll once again team up with DonorsChoose.org to support music & arts programs in high-need public schools. He’ll ask thousands of concert goers during his summer Glam Nation tour to support projects posted by teachers on DonorsChoose.org as part of his Glam A Classroom campaign: www.donorschoose.org/GlamNation
Fans will be invited to send a text message to a unique numberduring or after each show to get more info from Adam about how to donate and win prizes. But anyone who gives to the campaign, fervent fan or not, will be eligible for prizes (details TBD).
Quoth Adam:
I can’t thank my fans enough for getting involved with the Glam A Classroom campaign to provide much needed resources for public schools. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of amazing music and theater teachers, so I want to help foster the next Ansel Adams or American Idol.
Glam-ing classrooms seems to come naturally to many Lambert fans, be they “Glamberts,” “Glittizens,” or that sparkly sock Adam may have lost in the “Glittermat Laundry Room.” Last fall, after asking fans to give to DonorsChoose.org in lieu of gifts, over 2,000 donations were made from fans around the world – raising over $300,000 and counting. We’ve been blown away by the generosity and enthusiasm of Adam and his adopted “Glamily” so far – and we’re pretty sure the best is yet to come. (It’ll probably have on some fierce eyeliner when it does.)

Watch those Twitter feeds for #DonorsChoose and #TWTRCON for all the live action being shared directly from the event. Attendees will not only be hearing from the likes of Martha Stewart, but DonorsChoose.org’s founder Charles Best as well. We’re the official nonprofit partner for the event, so each conference attendee will receive a DonorsChoose.org Gift Card with their name badge. Whooo!

First off, we’d like to thank everyone who’s participated in the Bing Teacher Appreciation campaign! Because of your kind words (and great teachers!), Bing has already donated well over $50,000 to classroom projects and just officially extended the campaign to June 30th!
We also wanted to tell you about another easy way to help classrooms with Bing. This Sunday, for 24 hours, you can help bring more resources to teachers and students by liking Bing on Facebook. For each person who clicks the “Like” button on Bing’s Facebook page, they’ll donate $1 to high-need projects on DonorsChoose.org. So, add it to your calendar and tell some friends so we can help even more projects like this one:
And if you haven’t shared a story (or five!) about why you’ll never forget your favorite teachers, you’ve only got a couple more weeks. If you have, please help spread the word by telling a few friends!

Last week, DonorsChoose.org harnessed the collective buying power of the group coupon site, Groupon, to introduce millions of deal-seekers to DonorsChoose.org. Groupon subscribers in over 60 cities were invited to purchase DonorsChoose.org gift credits for 50% off – a deal made possible by our friends at the Pershing Square Foundation! This deal was so good, even the New York Times couldn’t resist writing about it.
Groupon’s faithful came through in a huge way! Over 1,200 citizen philanthropists purchased over $130,000 in DonorsChoose.org credits to donate to classroom projects of their choice. That is a lot of savvy shoppers being education philanthropists for half the cost!

As part of Goldman Sachs’ Community TeamWorks initiative, ten Goldman Sachs employees spent an exciting afternoon volunteering their time at DonorsChoose.org’s new NYC headquarters where they were able to visit and ask questions of our CEO Charles Best and our CTO Oliver Hurst-Hiller.
Goldman Sachs is a leading global financial services firm providing investment banking, securities and investment management services to a wide array of clients across the globe. They’re also committed to volunteering in communities where they work and live through unique partnerships with nonprofit organizations. In fact, through Community TeamWorks, the office of corporate engagement at Goldman gives ALL employees one day off each year to volunteer in team-based projects coordinated with local and international nonprofit organizations.
Employees from the Goldman Sachs New York City and Jersey City offices toured the DonorsChoose.org office and then volunteered their time to process classroom thank-you packages from teachers across the country. They even set an all-time record: processing more thank-you packages than any other corporate volunteer group! They have superpowers, we think.
