Celebrate your favorite teachers! Starting today, you can join Bing in showing appreciation for the heroes of education. Great teachers inspire, excite, and have a positive impact on countless young lives. Yet they are often under-paid, under-supported, and under-appreciated. Bing and DonorsChoose.org are partnering to give teachers the materials and support they need.
This partnership encourages folks to share stories about great teachers, and will help reward teachers in the process. Choose up to five of your favorite teachers and post a comment about why you’ll never forget them. Bing will then give you a $5 gift card to help fund a DonorsChoose.org classroom of your choice.
Here’s how it works:
- Post a comment here about a teacher who had a profound effect on your life or the life of a child you know.
- Bing will email you a $5 gift code for your qualifying comment. Use this code to support a classroom project on DonorsChoose.org. You may post comments about five inspiring teachers.
- Search for your comment on the Bing map. In June, Bing will send each teacher the comments they’ve received, congratulating them.
Who can comment?
- Anyone who has been inspired by a K-12 teacher.
- You may comment on a teacher of your own, or work with a child to comment about their teacher.
Have fun! Hug a teacher!

I was inspired greatly by my 3rd grade teacher. She was an amazing artist and helped me grow more artistic talent. She also taught me yoga wich was interesting

Howdy – Just want to make sure it’s clear that to qualify for the $5 code from Bing you’ll need to post this comment (or one like it) on their site, which you can access right here. Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for participating!
Comment by Zach — May 20, 2010 at 9:48am
I’m not quite sure how this all works. I posted a comment about my teacher and I see it posted on the website map, but I never recieved a $5.00 coupon. Is there something else that I needed to do to receive the coupon?
Comment by Mary — May 20, 2010 at 8:24pm
I never received a giftcard either. I’m still waiting to see if I receive atleast a confirmation that BING received and posted my comment. (I did find the comment posted) So the question is, how does this whole thing work?
Comment by Wendy — May 21, 2010 at 6:33am
I don’t understand why some of my students received the $5 code and some did not??????
Comment by becky — May 21, 2010 at 9:35am
Well, none of my students recieved any and they started to post only a couple hours after BING announced their promotion. Though I believe this to be a wonderful idea and inspiring to many teachers, I am very disappointed in how this promotion was run. I hope that someone responds to these inquiries.
Comment by Ruth — May 21, 2010 at 9:52am
Shame on Bing for misleading us on this. I never received anything either and I received an email from donorschoose yesterday promoting the event….so what happened?
Comment by Nona — May 21, 2010 at 10:04am
Hi everyone – Thanks for your enthusiasm about this deal, and sorry for any confusion. The codes are not emailed out immediately, so be patient. It may take up to 24 hours to receive yours. They also occasionally end up in SPAM folders so be sure to check there. Thanks again!
Comment by Zach — May 21, 2010 at 11:44am
Does anyone know when is the last day for the giving away of the $5. gift card? I know the gift card codes are good until July 10, 2010. It’s been 24 hours since I thank my teachers for their kindness, and dedication and I stil did not get any codes.
Comment by Nadia — May 21, 2010 at 5:33pm
I thanked my teachers for their kindness well over 24 hours ago as well, and I see that other people have already recieved their codes and applied them to projects. Wondering as well when the appreciation ecent ends.
Comment by Zack — May 21, 2010 at 7:25pm
It has almost been 36 hours for most of my students!
Comment by becky — May 21, 2010 at 7:27pm
Same thing for me. I have been encouraging people to do this and they arent getting anything so they arent asking anyone else to do it for me. That is kinda discouraging :(
Comment by jo — May 22, 2010 at 11:54am
So I have 26 students who all commented on the first day of the event, and not one of them have heard anything as of yet….
Comment by Pam — May 22, 2010 at 12:01pm
It seems to me that I am not the only one who is not happy with this. If they are not giving out anymore coupons, then they need to STOP promoting it that way. Just ask for comments, many people would still do it even if there wasnt an incentive. P.S. I haven’t recieved anything yet eaither and it has been over 36 hours.
Comment by Gwen — May 22, 2010 at 12:35pm
It sure is frustrating. It won’t be easy to ask people to do something like this again if codes don’t start showing up soon. It’s been over 3 days—I think it is broken.
Comment by Betzi — May 23, 2010 at 11:15am
I have several friends who tried it, and never recieved anything either, what a disappointment.
Comment by Sue — May 23, 2010 at 1:30pm
It didn’t work for me, and I talked both of my parents into doing it as well and none of us have received our codes. I’m wondering if it was because we all used a mac? Or because the 3 of us used the same computer, although we have our own email addresses?
Comment by STACY — May 23, 2010 at 6:50pm
I don’t think it is a mac issue. i also use a mac at home, but most of my family and the school is not using macs. there have been missing codes from both. And my brother entered on my mac with his email address and received some of the codes.
Comment by Chris — May 23, 2010 at 7:37pm
I have gotten some codes and I haven’t received some codes. I can see why some people find this discouraging, but remember the reason for doing this, to thank a teacher. I am one and I am enjoying the comments students make even if the codes inconsistely come through. I think Bing has wonderful intentions. Thank you Bing!
Comment by Holly — May 23, 2010 at 9:24pm
I also appreciate the thankyous..but my question is this…do we keep encouraging people to go and tell them to look for the codes in their inboxes…or do we just not worry about it since its not working?
Comment by Jo — May 23, 2010 at 11:43pm
How long will this promotion be available?
I have submitted my 5 comments and all were posted. I also received my 5 codes and donated those to a teacher’s project in my home state! Thanks to DonorsChoose and Bing for working together to support education.
Comment by Colette — May 24, 2010 at 7:26am
It seems to me it is just those comments entered Th and F last week which did not generate codes. My family members who commented this weekend got at least some codes. My students are so disappointed, though, to have no codes for all that typing last week—difficult task for English Language Learners without a lot of technology experience. I’m hoping Bing will fix this somehow…
Comment by Chris — May 24, 2010 at 10:26am
So if we did not get codes for Thursday and Friday and we resubmit for codes today….will we get them or will it say we have already done them the five times?
Comment by Joyce — May 24, 2010 at 11:43am
I tried resubmitting them again and still nothing, wish someone would respond to these notes so that we know what is going on.
Comment by wendy — May 24, 2010 at 11:59am
Hi guys – I’m so sorry for the trouble you’ve all encountered regarding this promotion. We spoke with Bing and they’ve asked that everyone who commented but did not receive a $5 code email teachapp[at]waggeneredstrom[dot]com with the day you voted and the email address used. They also asked that we assure you that they are committed to getting a $5 donation code to everyone who submits a qualifying comment. Hope this helps. Thanks again for participating and sorry again for the trouble!

My email gets kicked back. Is there something a little off?
Comment by Chris — May 24, 2010 at 4:13pm
Email did work second time—at least, it went somewhere. Waiting on those codes!
Comment by chris — May 24, 2010 at 4:33pm
I sent an email to …waggeneredstrom.com and it kicked back.
Comment by Ashly — May 24, 2010 at 4:33pm
For teachers who are having their students enter from school I am sure you will not receive those codes. School systems block contests and have so many filters. On Bing’s Earth Day Contest I tried from school and never recieved any codes. When I checked with our IT guy he said they would be filtered and never reach the our accounts. If you try from school on your own account (msn, yahoo – whatever)it should work. My family and friends all got codes from home – so I think it is working and my kids all have Mac so it’s not that.Hope this helps.
Comment by Debby — May 24, 2010 at 9:04pm
I did get codes from school. Some came through and some didn’t. That isn’t the problem. I even did mine from home and some did not come through.
Comment by becky — May 25, 2010 at 6:41am
Has anyone who emailed received a reply?
Comment by MJ — May 25, 2010 at 10:21am
nope, no replies yet…..sent an email yesterday afternoon
Comment by Gwen — May 25, 2010 at 10:34am
No one replied to the email I sent to: teachapp@waggeneredstrom.com as of yet. I sent it on May 24, 2010 around 4:33 PM.
Comment by Ashly — May 25, 2010 at 12:29pm
Emailed yesterday. No reply. I also don’t think the issue was submitting comments from school. So far, no one got codes if they submitted comments Th 5/20 or F 5/21 either at school or at home. Submissions from school W 5/19 and M 5/24 received codes. Did anyone submit Th or F and get a code?
Comment by chris — May 25, 2010 at 1:13pm
I haven’t had a reply yet either. We also redid some of the comments yesterday morning and haven’t received codes for them either.
Comment by becky — May 25, 2010 at 1:16pm
I tried to send the email to the address given teacherapp@(etc. It was kicked back as undeliverable. What is the problem? My students redid some letters yesterday also, but they have not received any codes.

I can still remember poetry my fifth grade teacher had us memorize. She had me tutor people who struggled with math. Perhaps that’s why I ended up majoring in math and becoming a teacher!

My high school English teacher saw through my rough edges and goofy facade to the true potential that I had. He always had faith that I would land on my feet and accomplish much in life. He wrote recommendations that gained me acceptance to my desired university and showered me with unwavering encouragement. I am now a second year medical student and can not begin to thank him enough!
Comment by Greg — May 31, 2010 at 12:32pm
It’s a hit and miss situation. Received some codes. Many family and friends did not receive codes. Bing suggested they let them know through teachapp@waggeneredstrom.com, which they did, and still no codes. I can’t ask them to tell Bing again. Asked Bing if I could give them a list of family and friends that submitted. NO! Each person must contact Bing individually. Too much work to ask of friends and family. Great idea but I think Bing was inundated!
Comment by Debbie — June 5, 2010 at 8:07pm

Mrs Huffman (Mrs.Carpenter) is an amazing teacher. She inspired me so much. She was the kind of teacher that when she said she was going to do something she did it. Like in 4th grade she had us all write letters to ourselves for our senior year and she had us address them to our address. She then had us give them to her and she said that she would mail them to us our senior year. I, like many of the other fourth graders forgot about them. However, one day I received a letter from myself and it meant so much to me that she kept them and actually sent them. She really is an amazing teacher.

I utterly liked reading about Installing BlogEngine.NET on GoDaddy and thought it was well worth the read. The only other site I found on Google wasnt as good as this one, thanks.

My third and fourth grade teachers were twins. I was lucky enough to have them both while I was in elementary school. While I was in their classes, I remember learning more about how to be a student than I can specifically remember learning math facts or sight words. They were incredible examples of the importance of teaching to the whole child. Both inspired me to become a second grade teacher myself! :)

I never liked history until high school. Because of my 11th grade US History teacher, I became fascinated with it. Years later, it’s the subject I’m most excited to teach to my own students.

My AP US History helped bring out my love for History. I remember her class was so difficult and rigorous, but if it were not for her I would have never majored in Political Science/History and became as interested in current events.

My 4th grade teacher was so thoughtful. She gave me a beautiful card on the day my stepdad adopted me.

Miss Clemens truly cared about every student. She is one of the reasons I am now a teacher.

My 4th grade teacher was such a great inspiration that I wanted to become a teacher and do the same for other children.
