My kindergarten class is made up of 19 students who are eager to learn. Our small rural school is part of a caring and supportive community. Many families have attended this school for generations! When I recently asked my students their favorite part of the school day, many said, "Daily 5 choices." The children are given the opportunity to practice literacy skills through independent work each day. They have really taken off with their reading! I frequently have students following me around with a book they want to read to me! It is such a joy to watch their growth as readers. We are fortunate to be a part of a school culture that celebrates reading. A highlight of our week is reading with our third grade book buddies. At the beginning of the year the "big kids" did all the reading, now my little kiddos are excited to be able to read to the third graders!
