One thing that is great about my job is that I teach three-year-olds and 18-year-olds all in the same day. My students range from preschoolers to high school seniors taking college credit classes. In a school set up like ours, I get to see the students grow throughout the years. It gives me great pleasure to be able to talk to my high school students about what they are reading and for us to recommend books to each other. It's also so disappointing when I can't seem to reach other students, no matter what book I try to coax them with. I've noticed that it starts to happen for most of these kids around the transition from elementary to high school. My focus is to keep those kids hooked on reading as well as to offer multiple opportunities to learn using a variety of modes, including hands-on materials.
